From San Francisco to Vancouver
Denise McCann's story crosses folk clubs, rock rooms, radio and the explosion of late-1970s dance music. After performing around San Francisco, she moved north to Vancouver and became part of the city's music scene, appearing at rooms including the Commodore Ballroom and Rohan's Rockpile.
There she connected with producer Guy Sobell, beginning a creative partnership that would lead to “Tattoo Man,” her breakthrough record, and the albums that followed. By early 1977, “Tattoo Man” was receiving national attention and climbing Vancouver radio, while Denise and Guy were at Little Mountain Sound working on her debut album.
This archive begins with those records, but it is ultimately about the people, places and stories around them, many of which Denise herself can now help us preserve.
